“LNYSA believes in a true player development pathway so we want to ensure that every player has the opportunity to play at their best. This philosophy starts with supporting the recreational coaches so that they have what they need to support and develop the players.
LNYSA has been providing soccer programs designed to develop skills, build confidence, teamwork, self-esteem and leadership for over a decade. As Laguna Niguel’s top youth soccer league, LNYSA proudly facilitates youth soccer players across three levels of the game—Recreational, Select and Club (as represented by Laguna United FC). These programs support a player-centric development pathway that allows players to participate at different levels of play based on their needs and abilities.
We believe that support of the Coach is critical to helping the players and the families enjoy the game season after season and continue to come back to play the beautiful game.
A few of the areas we focus on in support of the coach are listed below:
Head Coaches Player Plays for Free – Being a Recreational Coach takes time so one of the areas we help to support the coach is offering them a free place for their player on the team as a token of our appreciation in the role a coach has to the players, the parents & LNYSA.
Coach Training – LNYSA supports the USSoccer Grassroots Coaching Pathway Initiate for 4v4, 7v7, 9v9 & 11v11 formats. These courses are a combination of online & on field training. These courses are free to Coaches and require limited time to complete but we believe offer a great a-la-carte approach to empowering coaches with education that is relevant to their specific coaching needs.
Coach Manuals – LNYSA offers Coaching Manuals and access to a variety of Coach mentors (if requested) to help new Coaches.
Player Clinics – LNYSA offers 6 weeks of age based midweek player clinics during the Spring & Fall Seasons run by professional Coaches so that both players and coaches can pick up some new ideas. We have found these 1 hour optional clinics are a great way for coaches to pick up new coaching techniques and emulate these ideas during their practice sessions.
Coach Soccer Games – Some of the Coaches also want to play the GAME so we support small sided soccer games for coaches on Tuesday & Thursday evenings. These pick up games are open to all Coaches, support multiple player abilities and are GREAT fun. We have been running these games for over 15 years and have players from 25 to 70 years old playing in these games.
Regular Communication – Listening to the Coach and the families about their experiences during the season is critical to the development of the LNYSA program. We have multiple Division Directors that work with each age group supported by a team of Board volunteers that are available for game coverage, mentoring or just taking feedback so that the program is constantly evolving to address the needs of its community members.
